A small James I oak coffer with a boarded lid held by its original wire hinges, a double panelled front and side boards with Gothic arches acting as feet. The superb carving on the top rails, muntins and panel suggests a sophisticated workshop such as those in the Salisbury area of Wiltshire. Nice original lockplate and with a later hasp. Excellent untouched colour. Circa 1620. 38 1/2 inches wide x 16 1/2 inches deep x 24 1/2 inches high.
