Of very narrow proportions, this 17th century oak coffer is a transitional piece with a carved and panelled front and with boarded sides which have ogee arches acting as feet. The boarded lid is held by its original wire hinges. The carving suggests a West Country origin. Lovely colour and patination. Circa 1660. 45 inches wide x 23 1/2 inches high. It is just 15 1/2 inches deep on the lid and 13 1/2 inches on the body.
