A strange pair of 16th century English oak panels depicting men standing within an arcaded background. One man has a beard and holds in front of him a cross in the shape of a saltire. This may represent St. Andrew who was crucified on a X shaped cross. The other shows a man holding a decapitated head in his right hand and a purse in his in his right hand, whilst under his arm is a sword. This probably represents St. Matthew who was executed by decapitation and his attribute is a purse to signify his previous profession as a tax collector. 20 inches x 10 1/2 inches.
