This sophisticated oak chest is almost certainly from Suffolk or Norfolk. The applied decoration to the arcaded front is often seen on pulpits and other pieces of church architecture in the Eastern Counties. In addition the chest has marquetry inlay to the top rail and original carved spandrels. The sides and back are also panelled. Excellent colour and patination throughout. Circa 1660. See Chinnery page 397 fig. 4:51 for a chest with similar decoration. 53 inches wide x 22 inches deep x 28 inches high.
