It is hard to precise about the exact date of this carving, but it is no later than mid 15th century. The dog has eight sharp teeth and a vine coming out of its mouth. It was almost certainly a supporter on an English misericord and has lovely untouched patination. It measures eight inches high x 7 1/2 inches wide.
