This charming pair of oval portraits of a brother and sister are inscribed on the backs "William Kendall's picture drawn May 1790 in the ninth year of his age" and "Sarah Kendall's picture drawn May 1790 in the seventh year of her age". William stands with a book in his hand and a dog at his side in a landscape and Sarah has a bird sitting on her arm and stands next to a rose bush. Slightly naïve, they are in untouched condition and measure 14 1/2 inches x 12 1/2 inches across the original giltwood frames.
