An untouched oak coffer dating from about 1660 with a double panelled top held by original wire hinges and with its original lockplate, hasp and lock which has a working key.. The top rail and panels to the front with fine quality carving which is typical of Gloucestershire or Somerset workshops and with scratch carving to the bottom rail, legs and muntin. The interior has a till with its original hinges, hasp and lockplate. The chest stands on good high legs and has wonderful colour and patination. 39 inches wide x 18 1/2 inches deep x 22 1/2 inches high.
