A very large late 17th century delft drug jar.

Standing 11 inches high, this attractive drug jar is decorated in blue with the cartouche "MERCURIA" for quicksilver or mercury and decoration depicting birds, foliage, tassels and a mask. A jar with similar decoration is depicted in Drey's "Apothecary Jars" plate 64a and is attributed to Brussels last quarter of the 17th century. Excellent untouched condition.
