This year's Christmas Selling Exhibition opens on 30th November and runs until Saturday 14th December. There will be over sixty pieces on display, many of which have come from good private collections To view pieces that will be in the exhibition just click on Christmas Selling Exhibition 2013 - I have just started to put pieces on and will continue to do so right up to the opening day.
As usual the emphasis will be on colour and patination and this is exemplified by the number of pieces that incorporate burr wood. In addition to the oak, there are good examples of walnut, elm, fruitwood and yew wood. Illustrated here is a lovely burr elm and oak chest of drawers (SOLD), one of five chests of drawers in the exhibition, and a small 16th century oak boarded chest (SOLD), probably from Northamptonshire, with a superb chip carved front. Many of the pieces are small, but an exception is a seven feet long low dresser in fruitwood that is illustrated in two books on antique furniture.
The works of art section is strong on carvings, including a beautiful Madonna and Child group (SOLD)with a lot of original paint, there is a charming pair of portraits of children inscribed with their names and ages, and some good delft including a very large deep sided punchbowl in blue and white.
